Breast Cancer: Inclusive education in rural communities is vital to combat disease

Raissa Opinion

Over the weekend, I stepped out of my comfort zone to bring breast cancer education to rural communities, focusing on both men and women.

Too often, men are excluded from conversations about breast cancer, even though they too can be affected.

In Tomefa, a farming and fishing community within the Ga South Municipality, I had the opportunity to interact with local fishermen and ensure that the women in the community were equally engaged.

I am a firm believer that education is one of the most powerful tools in the fight against breast cancer. Ignorance can have devastating consequences when it comes to diseases like cancer, where early detection can make all the difference.

That’s why we must all come together to raise awareness and combat not just breast cancer, but all forms of cancer.

My passion for this cause stems from my own experience as a breast cancer survivor. This fuels my drive under the Raissa Child Protection Initiative Project, where I advocate for the wellbeing of children.

It is crucial to remember that when parents and guardians are healthy, their children have the chance to thrive. Let’s protect the next generation by ensuring their caregivers are educated and healthy.

Together, we can make a difference.
